Recycling Truck Causes Three-Car Accident on I-95 in Jacksonville

On the morning of April 22, 2014 in Jacksonville, a recycling truck caused a three-car pileup on I-95. According to police officers at the scene, the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95 and Bowden Road. When traffic up ahead slowed to stop, the recycling truck failed to respond in time, forcing the driver to swerve and slam into an Acura before rear-ending a Honda. The Honda eventually flipped over and slammed into a wall.

Was the driver of the recycling truck distracted? Intoxicated? Tired? Charges are pending against the 41-year-old driver from Daytona Beach.

Following are some tips to help you avoid injury or accident on your next morning commute:

  • Check your mirrors, even in traffic — While sitting in traffic you may be fidgeting with your radio, glancing at your phone or looking out the window. Since cars aren’t moving, you may assume you are safe from an accident. However, by frequently looking in your rearview mirror, you may be able to spot a vehicle barreling down the road behind you and you may have time to get out of the way.
  • Wear your seatbelt — Everyone in the above-mentioned accident suffered just minor injuries. Why? One reason could be that all three crash accident victims were wearing their seatbelts.
  • Leave some space between you and the car in front of you — Always leave room between your car and the vehicle in front of you. This small amount of space can allow wiggle room in case you need to suddenly steer right or left to avoid a rear-end collision.

In many auto accidents, drivers and passengers suffer brain, spine and neck injuries. If a negligent driver has caused you or a loved one catastrophic harm in Florida, consult with a respected team of accident attorneys today.
